ABOUT
Pete SINCLAIR PHOTOGRAPHY is about returning you to the joy of your camera.
The move from analogue to digital photography began to rob me of the love of the art of the camera until I decided to teach photography again. Digital photography makes it too easy to set the camera on auto or program and sit back and become a 'passenger' to the camera. It now costs us nothing to take thousands of images so we have become less discerning and more prodigious in our photography. Now the computers and online sites have become overcrowded with poor images snapped rather than well-executed photographs we have planned and taken.
Recently I found a coffee mug that says, "Everyone's a photographer until 'M'". Meaning if we let the camera do the work we will get good images but once we switch to the Manual controls and 'drive' the camera we will create great images, art, memories and more.
The aim of my class is not to make great photographers; that (i hope) will come from your passion. My aim is to help you understand your camera and get more out of each photograph you take. To reduce the number of snaps we take and increase the number of moments captured that we are truly proud of.
I am by no means an expert but I have been taking photographs since the late '70s and whether photographing weddings, celebrities or family and friends it has been a passion of mine at varying levels. Once I discovered that detaching it from my income and doing the photography I love, rather than the photography someone else wants me to take, then it all changed for the better.
These days I think I derive my greatest pleasure guiding someone towards enjoying their cameras more. It does not matter how expensive or old your camera is but how well you understand it and how well you know the rules of focus, exposure and composition. Understanding the construction and techniques needed to 'build' a great image and the settings your camera can handle means that you are able to push it (and you) to the limits and get images you want and have 'designed'.
So no mater what your level, the manual setting will frustrate you at times but ultimately, reward you with better images and fun behind the camera.
